Leigh is the nearest town to our studio in Lowton and a place I have spent much of my early life, actually living in the town for many years. As I have got older I have become increasingly interested in the towns history and begun to take notice of the towns older buildings and architecture.
Although the town has changed dramatically over the years with the decline of the mills, the closure of the mines, and emergence of a more retail oriented town, some of the towns past still is there to be discovered.
It amazes me how little I had noticed as I went about my visits to the town, walking around with my eyes wide shut much of the time. The town has some great architectural heritage which is sadly poorly maintained.

LOCAL GHOST STORIES IN LOWTON TO ENJOY THIS HALLOWEEN
THE GHOST OF SANDY LANE
The angry ghost of Joshua Rigby, a Lowton farmer is said to be seen running down the quiet Sandy lane on dark nights. Mr Rigby was known to be a cruel man particularly to his elderly sisters. He would often boast about his wealth in local public houses and taunt his nephews that they would not get their hands on it after this death. He was persuaded by his nephew John Gibbons to make a will in case he go to prison for cruelty after being caught beating his sister with a belt.
In the June of 1883 he signed his will, leaving everything he owned to John, just a few weeks later Joshua with found with his throat cut in this bedroom, on further investigation John Gibbon was found in possession of this will and bank book.
He was arrested and an inquest was held at the Jolly Carter Inn, at the top of Sandy lane.
John Gibbons was committed to Liverpool Crown Court on suspition of murder, after two doctors gave evidence that a blow from his heavy boots could have caused Joshua’s head injuries and a long grey hair was found in the seam of the accused’s boot. However the trial feel apart and John returned to Lowton after serving two months in prison.
The gruseome goings on remained the main topic of conversation and speculation for months and were covered by the local press.
For years after that, however, many people reported sightings of the old man’s ghost stalking the lanes and fields around the farm – it is often seen by the late night customers of the Jolly Carter Inn.

If you’ve been wondering what to wear for your upcoming photoshoot, there’s a couple of things to keep in mind. Make sure all those participating in the photoshoot are comfortable with what they are wearing.Being uncomfortable during the shoot will translate onto the photographs, so make sure clothing fits well.
Also if someone is particular conscious of a particular body part, say for instance they don’t want to show their arms off, then wear clothing that will cover the arms to aid the photographer. We won’t be able to cut your arms out of the photos, so covering is the best option in this scenario.
If there is a group of you having your photographs taken together, try to ensure you coordinate both the style and colours, so that they go together as a group. Having someone dressed formally, while someone else is dressed casually won’t look right on the final photographs. The same applies to colour, think about what you want to see on your walls. for instance bright greens mixed with dark purple will look odd visually. As a rule of thumb neutral colours look best, but rules are made to be broken sometimes.
We have a few ideas for you to look at below, if you have any additional questions regarding clothing, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
